In a soundproof chamber, a hearing test is conducted. A gadget that emits sounds of various volumes and pitches to one ear at a time will be attached to your headphones or earplugs. Every time you hear a sound, you will be prompted to answer by raising your hand or clicking a button. You will be asked to repeat the words you hear to test your speech discrimination. As the test goes on, the loudness of the two-syllable words you hear will gradually go lower. The second part of the test involves hearing and repeating a string of one-syllable syllables at a constant level. A soft plug is put in your ear during the tympanometry and acoustic reflex exam.
