To ascertain whether a hearing loss has occurred and to monitor the patient's hearing before and after surgery, audiometry testing may be administered to patients with tumors in or around the ear. It is also used to decide whether surgery or hearing aids would be beneficial for a person. The outer, middle, and inner ear are the three sections of our ears. You can find out if you have conductive hearing loss (damage to the eardrum or the tiny ossicle bones) or sensorineural hearing loss (injury to the nerve or cochlea) with audiometry exams.
