Often, voice evaluations include a multidisciplinary approach. Normally, this involves evaluations from an ENT surgeon and a speech therapist (ENT). In order to accurately diagnose your condition, an ENT will be able to look inside your throat using a sophisticated camera. Before attending a vocal exam or receiving voice therapy from a speech pathologist, you are not needed to have an ENT evaluate you. Nevertheless, an ENT examination is typically advised because diverse voice abnormalities and laryngeal illnesses have distinct prognoses and react differently to various types of treatment (e.g. voice therapy, medicinal, surgical). We urge that you obtain an ENT evaluation if you have been advised to do so or if you want to. If any of the aforementioned symptoms have persisted for longer than two to three weeks (or two to three weeks after a cold or the flu), you may have a voice dysfunction or another laryngeal disorder, such as paradoxical vocal fold motion. While the majority of voice and laryngeal diseases are benign, some of them, such as neurological disease and laryngeal cancer, can be warning signs of significant medical conditions. Early evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment of the voice are advised.
